Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 July 2026
Keen helps you and your friends find the nights you're all free — and things on around Melbourne worth heading out for. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
This policy is written to comply with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Keen is operated under ABN 39 867 349 188, based in Melbourne, Australia ("Keen", "we", "us", "our").
Who can use Keen
Keen is for people aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Phone number — you sign in with your mobile number, and we send a one-time code by SMS to verify it.
- Date of birth — to confirm you're 16 or older. We never show your age or birth date to other users.
- Username and profile — the @handle you choose, and optionally a profile photo.
- Your suburb — so we can show events near you. This is the suburb you enter yourself, not your device's GPS location.
- Your interests — the tastes and tags you pick so we can suggest events you'll like.
- Availability — the nights and times you mark yourself keen, maybe, or out.
- Your mates — the friend connections you make (by username) and friend requests you send or accept.
- Plans and messages — plans you create or join, your RSVPs, and messages you send in a plan's chat.
Information we collect automatically
- Push token and device info — a token and basic device details needed to deliver push notifications to you.
- Usage and analytics — how you use the app (screens viewed, features used) so we can understand what's working and improve it.
- Diagnostics — crash and error data to help us fix bugs.
How we use your information
- Run the core service — match you and your friends by shared availability, taste, and what's on.
- Send you notifications — match suggestions, plan invites, RSVPs, messages, and friend requests (you control these; see below).
- Verify your identity when you sign in, and confirm you meet the 16+ age requirement.
- Keep Keen safe and working, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
- Understand and improve the product.
- Contact you about important service or account matters.
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't use it for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
Notifications
Keen sends push notifications for matches, plan invites, RSVPs, messages, and friend requests. You can turn each category on or off in the app (Me → Notifications), and you can disable notifications entirely in your device settings. We deliberately keep match notifications rare and relevant — never spam.
Who we share it with
We share your information only with the service providers that help us run Keen, and only as needed to do so:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, file storage, and backend. Your data is hosted in Supabase's Sydney, Australia region.
- Twilio — delivers the SMS one-time code when you sign in.
- Expo — delivers push notifications to your device.
- PostHog — product analytics that help us understand and improve how Keen is used.
These providers act on our instructions and are required to protect your information. Some of them (Twilio, Expo and PostHog) may process data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States and Europe. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs.
Other Keen users can see limited information you choose to share — your username, profile photo, the availability you set, and the plans and messages you share with them. They never see your phone number, date of birth, or age.
Storing and keeping your information
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active. Our primary data store is hosted in Australia (Supabase, Sydney).
You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Me tab → account settings → delete account). Deleting your account removes your profile, availability, the plans you created, and associated data. Some information may remain in backups for a limited period, or where we're required to keep it by law.
Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No online service can be completely secure, but we work hard to keep your data safe and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
Third-party event content
Keen shows event listings, images and details sourced from third parties, such as ticketing platforms and venue listings. Those events, and any links to buy tickets, are provided by their respective owners and are subject to their own terms and privacy practices.
Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything inaccurate — much of this you can do directly in the app.
- Delete your account and data (in-app, as above).
- Complain if you think we've mishandled your information.
To make a request, contact us at the address below. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Keen grows. We'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we'll let you know in the app.
