Cuban Social Club
A night of authentic Cuban music at Lazybones. From the driving energy of Son and Guaracha to the tender pull of classic Bolero, led by a bandleader whose presence reaches from the stage to the back of the room.
Richard Ortega López is not simply a musician. He is a conductor of experience, shaping the music in real time, drawing the crowd into the performance, and commanding the room with the kind of authority that only comes from a lifetime inside the music.
A graduate of Havana’s Escuela Nacional de Arte, Ortega spent years on piano with Azúcar Negra and Maykel Blanco y Salsa Mayor, two of Cuba’s most celebrated ensembles, touring Europe, Canada, and Jamaica. He later founded La Jugada in Stockholm, building a following across Europe and the Americas. His piano playing features on Cubano Soy by Raúl Lara Y Sus Soneros, nominated for Best Tropical Latin Album at the 55th Grammy Awards (2012).
At Lazybones, he leads Cuban Social Club through the full depth of the Cuban repertoire: the canon and his own original compositions, with a rotating roster of Sydney’s finest Latin musicians.
On any given night, the band grows as players join from the crowd. Nobody leaves a spectator.
It’s not a nostalgia show. It’s the real thing, live. First in, best dressed.

Plan it on Keen
Keen is how mates lock in plans: see who’s free, who’s keen, and actually make it happen.
