Beneath the waters of Williamstown's Jawbone Marine Sanctuary lies a vibrant but threatened underwater forest.
In celebration of Biodiversity Month, join Associate Professor Dr Prue Francis from Deakin University for a fascinating talk on the Golden Kelp Restoration Project, an innovative effort to restore declining kelp forests in Port Phillip Bay and conserve the biodiversity of the Great Southern Reef. Golden kelp is a vital marine species that provides food and shelter for many ocean animals, but warming waters and other environmental pressures are threatening its survival.
Discover how scientists are restoring reefs by cultivating and planting juvenile kelp, with more than 300,000 deployed across Port Phillip Bay marine sanctuaries. Dr Francis will also explore how improving ocean literacy can inspire action to protect our marine environment.
Recently featured on ABC TV's Gardening Australia in Help for Kelp, Dr Francis brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for marine conservation.
