Day Dreams is the first solo exhibition by Kim Stark, bringing together two years of expressive, colourful and joy-filled painting.

Day Dreams is an invitation to step into the artist’s imagination, a world where colour takes the lead, landscapes emerge unexpectedly, and the boundaries between memory, place and imagination begin to blur.

Known for her bold and expressive approach to painting, Kim creates large-scale, colourful landscapes that capture the feeling of being outdoors without attempting to faithfully represent a particular place. Instead, her paintings are intuitive, energetic and wonderfully unpredictable.

“I have no plan when I’m starting a painting,” says Kim “I allow each mark and brushstroke to be guided by an impulse, with no thought as to where it’s all going. It always surprises me when landscapes appear and I can recognise them as places I love.”

Places such as Kakadu and the lush hinterlands around Ocean Shores have found their way into this evolving visual language, not as literal depictions, but as feelings, memories and impressions translated through colour and gesture.
