Late January is the last stretch of proper summer before the year starts for real. School goes back, the inbox fills up, and that's that.

So spend one more day on the water first.

Lunch is a proper gourmet buffet: wagyu beef carvery, prawns, calamari, ricotta and spinach agnolotti, roasted chat potatoes, smoky BBQ chicken drumettes, garden and coleslaw salads, seasonal fruit, coffee and tea. A glass of premium Australian sparkling on arrival, then beer, red and white wine, sparkling and soft drinks included for the full cruise. Someone else cooks, someone else cleans up.

The Cadman runs three levels with an open-air rooftop, so there's shade when you want it and sun when you don't. Sydney Harbour does the rest - the Bridge, the Opera House and the eastern bays at their best on a summer afternoon.

It's also the busiest day of the year on the water. The Ferrython, the Salute to Australia, the harbour parade, the tall ships and the regatta all run while we're out there, with the RAAF flypast overhead. You'll see it from the deck with a plate in one hand and a drink in the other. Beats standing three-deep on a foreshore in 30-degree heat.
