The Department of Italian Studies at The University of Western Australia (UWA) invites you to a special seminar celebrating the Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo 2026, dedicated to one of the most internationally acclaimed contemporary Italian novels: L’amica geniale (My Brilliant Friend) by Elena Ferrante.
What makes Ferrante’s novel so powerful? How does its language shape the story? And what happens when a distinctly Italian literary voice crosses linguistic and cultural boundaries?
Join us for an engaging conversation about Ferrante’s novel, its characters, language and extraordinary international success. The seminar will feature the remote participation of publisher Eva Ferri and English translator Ann Goldstein, offering a unique opportunity to hear first-hand about the journey of the book from the Italian original to its English-speaking readers.
