Join us for a welcoming afternoon of tango, music, movement and connection, open to everyone in the community.
This special event will include an introduction to Tango for Parkinson’s, a one-hour guided tango session, followed by tea, coffee and time to connect with others. No dance experience is needed, and all ages and abilities are welcome.
About Tango for Parkinson’s
Tango for Parkinson’s was founded by Rina Sawaya after her father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. At the time, Rina was teaching and dancing tango in Tokyo. Wanting to find a meaningful way to help, she began exploring movement-based therapies and discovered the growing research around Argentine tango and Parkinson’s.
After returning to Australia, Rina became involved in clinical research exploring tango as a therapeutic movement program for people living with Parkinson’s, with Tango for Parkinson’s beginning through a research study in 2013.
Today, Tango for Parkinson’s is a registered charity delivering inclusive, evidence-informed tango movement classes focused on movement, confidence, wellbeing and social connection.
This Newcastle event is proudly supported by Good Vibrations and DNS Australia, bringing our local community together to experience the program, connect with others and help grow awareness of Tango for Parkinson’s.
