Watch an award-winning film about Japanese historian Minoru Hokari and his connection with the Gurindji people.
In 1966, 200 Gurindji workers at Wave Hill in the Northern Territory walked away from the cattle station, back to their own Country. They stayed away for seven years, a decision that became a landmark in the fight for Aboriginal land rights.
The Wave Hill Walk-off came to the attention of a student in Japan who was inspired to study Gurindji history and culture. This award-winning film tells the story of Minoru Hokari and his connection with the Gurindji. He spent many months living with the Gurindji, studying with Elders and writing a book about their understanding of history.
Before his death in 2004 at just 32, Minoru completed his PhD on the Gurindji at the Australian National University.
