About

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Join artist Cristelle Cabrera in a special ceramics workshop as she guides participants through the process of creating figurines inspired by the Chimú culture of the northern coast of Peru, particularly its sculptural traditions and representations of human and animal forms. Learn basic hand-building techniques to sculpt bodies out of terracotta clay, then attach limbs and carve facial features with your own personalised designs.

Sculptures will be kept at Bankstown Arts Centre at the end of the workshop to dry and be fired in the kiln. Participants will be notified via email when their sculptures are ready to be collected.

This workshop has a maximum capacity of 12 participants.

Date and time: Saturday 21 November, 2:30-4pm

Location: Bankstown Arts Centre, Studio 2

Ages: 18+

Cost: $7 + booking fee

However, rather than attempting to replicate Chimú objects, she fragments, enlarges and transforms their visual language, allowing the figures to become embodiments of her own experience as a Peruvian Australian artist navigating questions of identity, displacement and belonging.
