Yarning and Art around the Campfire with Karen Briggs

Karen Briggs is a designer and illustrator whose work is inspired by her love of animals and nature, and by memories of holidays spent with her grandmother on the Cummeragunja Mission and yarning with mob around home campfires. She is a descendant of the Yorta Yorta people, whose ancestral homeland radiates from the junction of the Goulburn and Murray Rivers in north‑east Victoria.

In this relaxed and welcoming session, Karen will share cultural stories handed down through generations and speak about how she transcribes story, memory and knowledge of Country into her artwork.

Storytelling and art have been used for centuries to pass down culture and knowledge of Country, to share warnings, mark seasonal change, and carry important messages. This session celebrates the joy and strength of this continuing cultural practice.

Participants will be invited to reflect on and share their own stories and begin creating an original artwork inspired by the yarning and creative process.

Bookings essential- 1 ticket per child

This session forms part of the 'All In' Reconciliation Science School Holiday Program and is designed for children aged 7-12 years. Children under 12 years are required to attend with a parent or guardian.
