Talks on Tuesdays is a live event series bringing big ideas, real experts, and curious minds together - at your favourite local venues. Think thought-provoking lectures, audience questions, and post-talk mingling over drinks and dinner.

This isn’t a uni lecture. It’s a social, intelligent night out.Come alone or with friends, leave with something to talk about.

Let's Talk about Dance!

What is dance? Who dances in Australia? Community dancing is not just a physical activity- it acts as a social lubricant, expression of cultural identity, agent of political activism and more. Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities lead the way, yet for many Anglo Australians, dance remains a remote, mysterious activity performed on stages and screens (except when Nutbush is played). Come along- you may even be inspired to dance!

Your Speaker:

Dr. Jeanette Mollenhauer is an Honorary Fellow at The University of Melbourne, whose research focuses on community dance, especially exploring the significance of traditional dance among immigrant groups in Australia. She has published two books, Dancing at the Southern Crossroads: A History of Irish Step Dance in Australia 1880-1940 and Cultural Dance in Australia, as well as academic book chapters and journal articles.…
