The world has changed. The climate crisis has become a climate catastrophe, resources are running out, and a generation of young people has inherited the consequences.
Now they get to decide who was responsible.
In Dawn King’s gripping near-future drama, twelve young jurors are called upon to judge members of the generation that came before them for their crimes against the climate. The defendants insist they were ordinary people, living ordinary lives: working, raising families, travelling, consuming, making compromises. They knew the planet was in danger. But how much could any one of them really have done?
As the jury weighs guilt and innocence, The Trials turns its judgement back upon us. How responsible are individuals for the systems in which they live? When does justice become revenge? And what will the generation that inherits our choices make of the excuses we are making today?
Following its acclaimed UK premiere at London’s Donmar Warehouse, The Trials receives its Australian premiere at Flinders Drama Centre in a performance by Second Year Actors
