Ever wondered how it's done in the movies? Discover how visual effects (VFX) are made and see what you can create using the Media Lab green screen.

This hands-on masterclass is open to complete beginners. Filmmakers from The Story Mill will guide participants through visual effects from start to finish, including the basics of video editing using free software DaVinci Resolve.

Whether you’re wanting to create your own films, content or just creatively curious, this masterclass will have you transforming videos with confidence.

In this workshop, you will:

• Discover how visual effects are made — from shoot to finished screen.
• Shoot your own green screen scene in a professional studio.
• Learn how to key, composite and refine your footage in DaVinci Resolve.
• Leave with a finished VFX shot and the skills to create more at home.

Cost: $13

Age: 16+

Skill level: No prior experience required.

Equipment: This program will include an introduction to video editing. Computers are available to use in the Media Lab. If you would prefer to work from your own device, we encourage you to do so. Please select 'Bring Your Own (BYO) Device' ticket type and download and install DaVinci Resolve (free version) on your computer. Library device ticket holders are encouraged to bring a USB to save their work to at the end of the session.
