Heartwood Nature Bathing warmly offers a special 2.5-hour basket weaving workshop
You will learn to weave the 'wheat ear' stitch' to create either a bowl, coaster, or a wall hanging. Choose from a selection of premium hand-dyed raffia to create your unique work of art.
No prior experience is needed for this experience, which will help you cultivate a sense of calm, creativity and connection.
Please note: this is not an Indigenous weaving workshop. It is taught from a contemporary craft and mindfulness perspective. Sponsored places are available for Mob (2 per workshop.) Please reach out to the organiser if this is for you.
Where?
This small group experience takes place at the Vacant Assembly gallery in West End, inner Brisbane/Meanjin.
The space is wheelchair accessible.
Street parking is available nearby, and is free on Sundays.
Further details will be provided via email 72 hours prior to the event - please ensure you use the correct email to register!
What to expect
This event has a maximum of 14 participants, and is suitable for people 12 years and over.
We will use raffia, and weave in a coil style. This style involves wrapping around an inner core, and creating patterns using 'wheat stitches'. This is also called a V-stitch.
No prior experience is necessary and all materials are provided.
You can expect to weave a small basket, wall hanging, or coaster in this session, and you will take home the skills needed to complete larger projects.
This includes shaping, and finishing your work.
