About

Everyday life transformed into objects of wonder.

Hany Armanious The Planets is the latest in a series of MCA exhibitions that invite artists to present new work in dialogue with works from the MCA Collection. It features thirty works by the acclaimed contemporary artist who has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally since the 1990s and represented Australia at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011.

A sculptor of the seemingly ordinary, Hany Armanious is known for using labour intensive methods of fabrication to make near-identical replicas of objects found in everyday life. Through this process, found objects take on new life and meaning. Armanious’ enigmatic sculptures occupy an unsettling position between what they are and what they appear to be, raising questions about what we value and how we perceive reality. They awaken our senses to the wonder and fragility of the everyday, where ‘the spaces between and within things,’ according to the artist, ‘are as important as the objects themselves’.
