Featuring waacking dancers, live vocals, DJ sets and opportunities for audience participation, Disco Never Dies honours the communities that found freedom and connection on the dancefloor. Bursting with colour, rhythm and joy, this uplifting performance celebrates a cultural legacy that continues to inspire new generations.
Artist statement
Disco Never Dies is a vibrant celebration of disco culture, waacking dance styles and the communities that found freedom on the dancefloor. Combining dance, live vocals, DJ performance and archival visuals, the work explores how disco became more than music. It became a space for self-expression, belonging and liberation. Through personal stories, the performance reflects on the impact disco and waacking had on LGBTIQA+ communities, women and culturally diverse artists, while paying tribute to the pioneers who shaped the culture.
At its heart, the work is a love letter to disco, waacking and the communities that found freedom, family and joy on the dance floor and continues to pass that spirit on to future generations. Honouring the past while celebrating the present, Disco Never Dies culminates in a shared dancefloor experience that invites audiences to join the celebration.
