About the book:
Welcome to the RBC August event, where we'll be diving into August's theme, Modern Love, via this month's book, "Bonded by Evolution: What We've Got Wrong About Love and Connection", by Paul Eastwick.
We're told men and women want different things from love: he wants novelty, she wants commitment, he's chasing looks, she's chasing status. Psychology professor Paul Eastwick says this popular "evolutionary" story is unscientific, and sometimes dangerous. Drawing on original research from his own lab, he reveals a more hopeful truth: attraction isn't about hierarchies of 10s and 2s, it's about finding, and often building, real compatibility.
Why we chose it: "Rarely have scientific rigour and exuberant optimism been such congenial companions." - Eric Klinenberg, co-author of Modern Romance
