See the new exhibitions for September at KINGS Artist-Run.
Gallery One Advance by Georgia Hayward Advance considers the persistence of colonial systems in the face of ecological depletion. The single-channel video asks what happens when a nation built upon extraction reaches the limits of what its environment can provide, yet remains committed to the imperative of growth.
Gallery Two Stone Skipping Skimming by Soyo Paek & Hoi Ni Jess Chow Memory emerges when our present self brushes against the past, and language traces the contours of this fragile encounter. Fragments of experience glimmer like scattered light – persistent yet fleeting.
Gallery Three Gorselight Pours by Jame Nunn What is gorselight? In 1736 the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus is riding through Putney Heath in London. The father of modern taxonomy, he sees a flowering gorsebush, falls to his knees and begins to weep. Or so they say.
