About

The practice of making music can be a deeply introspective one, and one that is very subjective and reactive. Music is central to the human experience; it’s why we are drawn to it when we first hear the hum of a speaker or the squelch of a synthesiser.

This innate and deeply personal origin of music can be obfuscated by technical processes and quantification metrics associated with modern music. Striving to reconnect the human experience to music, Dutch-Australian composer-producer duo No Plexus developed taste journaling, an artistic practice devised while teaching at the ArtEZ Conservatory in the Netherlands.

Taste journaling encourages participants to become more aware of their subjective feelings toward music, and in turn, be more intentional with production or compositional choices.

Join as No Plexus explore taste journaling and how to embrace subjectivity as an artist and listener for this community focused entry in the MESS in Conversation series.
