Through playful imagery and bold design, Still Walking reflects on the stories, identities and experiences that have contributed to the area's rich cultural history. Installed in the public realm, the work celebrates visibility, individuality and the continuing evolution of one of Sydney's most significant cultural precincts.

Artist statement:

For generations, Oxford Street has been the symbolic heart of Sydney’s queer community: a place of celebration, protest, loss, self-discovery and belonging.

Still Walking uses legs, shoes and movement as a visual shorthand for the many people who have walked these streets and shaped its culture. Each banner references a different identity, era or community, forming a colourful procession of imagined figures moving together through queer history. Bold, playful and instantly recognisable, the works celebrate the diversity, resilience and enduring spirit of Oxford Street and the communities that continue to give it life.

Nikita Majajas is an artist, designer and maker whose practice spans wearable art, object design, installation and community-engaged projects. Known for her bold graphic aesthetic and playful use of colour, her work explores identity, material culture, queerness and social connection through objects and adornment.
