About

Join us for a book discussion of Melanie Phillip's recently published book, The Builder's Stone: How Jews and Christians Built the West—and Why Only They Can Save It. Melanie Phillips is a conservative British journalist currently based in Israel.

Meeting at 7.00pm on Thursday October 29, we will be discussing the book in a fairly detached and challenging way. We will discuss the arguments of the book, whether they are consistent, anticipated counter-arguments and whether her suggestions stack-up. You should be open-minded to hearing counter-arguments. If you feel passionately about your left-wing or right-wing views and not open to changing your mind, this book club is probably not for you.

We meet upstairs at The Shakespeare Hotel, 200 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills, in one of their semi-private rooms. There will be about 10-15 of us there. You can drink and eat during the meeting. The meeting formally lasts about an hour, but almost everyone stays back for further informal discussion.

The book is available through the usual place, including the local library system.
