Since 2011, Daryl Aberhart’s Aussie Gold Vol 1 album has been something of a cult favourite among those in the loop. It is a masterclass in how to take the DNA of iconic Australian radio hits and mutate them into something entirely fresh and soulful.
From NSW, a veteran of the Aussie jazz scene and the only artist ever authorised to write lyrics to the compositions of jazz legend John Scofield, Daryl is a master of the “re-frame". In addition to his favourite Australian tunes from legendary artists such as INXS, Divynls, Little River Band, Men at Work, ACDC, The Church, Cold Chisel, Icehouse, Mondo Rock, as well as some international and trans-Tasman bands like Split Enz and Dragon, Daryl deconstructs the nostalgia you grew up with and rebuilds it with his signature moves, full of odd time signatures, deep grooves and clever jazz re-contextualising.
