Allowed to Birth is a powerful new documentary following midwife and educator Kristine Lauria, exploring the global maternal health crisis and what it would take to make childbirth safer, more humane, and more empowering for all. Featuring leading voices in the birth world including Dr Melanie Jackson, Dr Stu Fischbein, Kemi Johnson and more.

  • Kristine Lauria is an internationally experienced midwife, educator and the central subject of Allowed to Birth. Her work is grounded in protecting physiological birth and supporting women’s autonomy, informed choice and trust in their bodies. With extensive expertise in complex birth, particularly breech and twins, Kristine also trains midwives to develop the skills and confidence to safely support birth outside the narrow parameters of routine maternity care.   • Jacinta Lagos is an Argentinian-born filmmaker, award-winning birth photographer, videographer and doula, and the director of Allowed to Birth. Having documented and attended around 200 births, Jacinta brings a deeply observational perspective to birth and maternity care. Her work uses powerful visual storytelling to explore physiological birth, maternal autonomy and the experiences of women within modern birth systems. (Virtual attendance)
